Serra Tramuntana Centre
Presents the Serra de Tramuntana Natural Site and the Raixa Estate as key centres to understand Majorca, and specially, to understand the value and the potential of one of its most unique cultural landscapes as well as its recent history, listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site.
This centre was inaugurated in October 2021 and was designed by the studio of the architect Dani Freixes in a style that returns the possession to its roots with the recovery of ethnological elements and an allusion to its history.
The visit to the Serra Tramuntana Centre is structured in 9 rooms that narrate the reasons and importance of the Unesco declaration. In this way there is space for the 20 municipalities that make up the area, for the traditions, for its people, for nature and for all the elements that make it unique, the possessions, the dry stone and the water management.
Opening hours:
- Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm.
- Mondays, Sundays and public holidays, closed.
Espai Collidores
The ‘Espai Collidores’ at the Serra Tramuntana World Heritage Centre, in gratitude to all the female olive pickers for their work during the coldest months of the year to preserve the Serra, which is now a World Heritage Site. This recognition is for all the women of the harvesters’ generation for everything they have contributed and continue to contribute to making this a better world, and specifically for the olive pickers for being an example of sisterhood before the word was even known.
The Consell de Mallorca awarded the olive pickers the 2021 Medal of Honour and Gratitude, in gratitude for their contribution to the household economy of many low-income families, to the island’s economy, to the fight for equality, to our heritage and to the preservation of the Serra de Tramuntana, which is on display in the hall. Also included are the 352 names of the olive pickers identified by the Consell de Mallorca, along with an explanatory panel detailing their history.
‘Collint testimonis’
‘Collint testimonis’ is an audiovisual project carried out in the municipalities of Campanet, Valldemossa, Bunyola, Puigpunyent, Sóller and Fornalutx. The result is six videos featuring the testimonies of 57 olive pickers from the Serra.
In each video, you can get to know the women who have taken part in this project better and hear their stories through the audiovisual piece featuring interviews from each locality.
